PLEASE watch out for motorcycles ... 12/01/2008 06:41 AM
I know it's a strange thing to say in December, but let's face it, kids ... we live in Kansas. Bikes are a year-round thing here. It might be below freezing one day and 60 degrees the next ... and besides, a little cold weather is NOT going to keep a motorcycle enthusiast from riding.
So, why am I giving you the safe driving lecture? We just had a REALLY rough holiday weekend.
Last Wednesday, Poker Boyfriend Roy got hit by a car while he was out on his Harley. Someone pulled out onto the street and must not have seen him because they ran right into him. He flew over the handlebars and ended up 40 feet from the collision site. It gives me a knot in my stomach even thinking about it. I can't even imagine what his wife Bonnie was going through when she ran to the accident scene ... and then when she made the phone calls to everyone to let them know what had happened.
Thank goodness he was dressed in his leathers and he had his helmet on! He suffered some broken bones and some road-rash ... but, thank God, he'll eventually heal. He just has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
The only thing that's worse than seeing someone you care about in excruciating pain, is that helpless feeling of wanting to do something to help when you know there's nothing you can do. So, Scott and I just made sure that Bonnie was okay. Bless her heart, she didn't leave his side the whole time he was in the hospital!
Yesterday, I called Bonnie to see what time Roy would be released so we could go up to the hospital and help her ... and ROY answered the phone! What a surprise! It was so wonderful to hear his voice on the other end. Now he's home ... and if I know anything about him, I'm sure he's trying to do too much. I'm also sure that you will be seeing Roy and Bonnie riding the bike to church again as soon as he's better and the weather is warm enough (and when Alef's gets done repairing it!).
We had so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving ... I will never again take for granted that everything is just going to be the same day to day.
Just remember, when you're out driving around - watch out for our friends on motorcycles.
=)
Saturday Night! 11/26/2008 09:15 AM
After we watched the grand lighting at Lights on the Lake at Heartspring, we drove around in the limo a little more ... then we got dropped off at Stooges to meet the boys.
They had spent the evening at Century 2 at the Ultimate Fighting something-or-another mixed martial arts whatta-ya-call-it. Basically, they watched guys climb into a ring and beat the crap out of each other. SO violent! I know nothing about it, and have no desire whatsoever to EVER go to one of these things. If I want to watch people fight, all I have to do is forget a load of clothes in the washing machine. A day or two after they've been washed and not dried the clothes become aromatic. Nothing ticks the Tallboy off more than finding that little surprise when he opens the lid on the washer!
BUT, I digress ...
The boys were jovial when they got to Stooges ... and they were ready for a cocktail! Barry, Roy and Steve are entertained by the Tallboy:
And I was actually able to capture a picture of the elusive Carl:
Carl has a profound aversion to the camera ... he even has henchmen to cover his face when the paparazzi are near:
One thing I love about digital cameras is the ability to take self-portraits (we do A LOT of that!). Even when there's someone sitting near that could take the picture, it's always more fun to take it yourself! BUT, I think this is the first portrait of a self-portrait ever for our group. Another "first"!
And that's when the dance party broke out! Val and Steph tried to get me to do the Cha Cha Slide, but I decided to stay on the sidelines and get photographic proof that they actually line dance! We even saw Lindsay (who I used to work with at Heartland Animal Hospital) ... here, she gets her dance on with the other girls!
Put another great Saturday in the books! That makes like a hundred this year, right? hahaha
Have a VERY Happy Thanksgiving!
Back on Monday!

Lights on the Lake! 11/25/2008 09:28 AM
Poker Boyfriend Roy proved once again on Saturday that he is a kind and benevolent man.
Rather than have us girls drive to Heartspring for the Lights on the Lake premier lighting, he decided to get us a limo!
We LOVE him! =)
So, Steph, Bonnie, Val, and I all piled into Shari's limo and had a little girls' night out.
When we got to Heartspring we met a cool new friend named Robbie. He acted as Master of Ceremonies for the evening and even sang a song for all of us after the lights went up. With his beautiful voice, it's no wonder that he's going to be a broadcaster when he grows up! Here, he took out time from the auction for a photo op:
Steph and Bon introduced me to two wonderful women ... Carol Wohlford and Michelle Sell. Carol is with the Andover Library and Michelle and her hubby own Timbuktu (home of the best burger in the WORLD). Here they are with Steph:
Then Bon Bon met her TV Boyfriend - Matt Mauro from KWCH Channel 12:
The lights there are beautiful ... photos cannot do it justice!
We all got together for a group photo before it was time to get back in the limo ...
Not sure what Steph said here, but Val thought it was hilarious!
Then Shari dropped us off at Stooges to meet the boys (who had spent the evening at Century 2 watching guys beat the crap out of one another) ... but she DID make time for a quick pic!
To be continued ...
tomorrow ... the pics from the partying later that night! I even have photos of the elusive Carl!

Not only does Sunny show adoptable dogs on her website but she actually volunteers out here at ks humane society every Monday to give us girls in the clinic a break. She brings a ray of sunshine into our stressful Mondays. We feel so lucky to have her around here!!!!
